Many a podcaster had been waiting since Tuesday for the release of Podshow+. According to Adam Curry, it was supposed to be released on Tuesday morning or at least at some point during the day. It was not. Neither was it released on Wednesday. Me

Today, on Thursday, it finally was available for a while, but the developers had botched the activation email system and hence most people didn’t even get a look at it while it was up. I am saying “while it was up,” as of now, 11pm, it is down again.

But not only that, there is a huge stink rising about the fact that Podshow has apparently added shows to is directory and appropriated them unrightfully by stripping out copyright information. Also, it is almost impossible for users to understand that a podcast is not part of the Podshow network and it is even harder for users to find the actual homepage for the respective podcast. This is a bad, bad decision, especially coming from podshow, whose head honcho Adam Curry has been preaching that your RSS feed is your most important property as a podcaster.

Dave Winer, Michaed Geoghegan and others have been waying in on this after Todd Cochran of Geek News Central discovered and blogged about this.

Todd Cochran:

I am sitting here beyond pissed, not because they have my site
automatically listed on their site that is fine because they are a
directory, but in the way they have done it, this makes people assume
that my podcast is part of Podshow, and diminishes my brand. They have
made it near impossible to get to my home page from their site unless
your really digg it’s 100% unacceptable.

Dave Winer:

I’m not happy that they’re taking over my content, putting their copyright notice on it, creating their own version
of my RSS feed, adding their crap, and taking out my copyright. They’re
really asking for trouble. On a massive scale. For example, here’s
their version of Engadget’s podcast feed. Copyright is “na.” Uhhhh. Hmmm. Same with Meet The Press. Here’s their program guide. Is your podcast there?

Paul Colligan seems slightly more sympathetic with Podshow:

A few things to ponder / think about:Adam’s Mom died days before this launch. I can imagine nothing worse. Give him some time to mourn.

While I fully agree with this, this is not about Adam Curry, this is about Podshow and Adam Curry might be the face of podshow, but I am sure he is not the one who makes every decision by himself.
